Clinton Anderson - Congratulations Theresa Rhine

Clinton Anderson's Biggest Fan

theresa-rhineIn May of 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and asked my best friend to sell my six year old green broke Arabian gelding Red. I hadn't ridden him in a year because he had dumped me hard out on the trail and I was afraid to ride him again. Now with breast cancer I knew that my chances of riding my fire breathing dragon again were slim to none.

Luckily, for me, she couldn't find a buyer. So as the summer wore on and I watched whatever horse programs I could to pass the time I came across Clinton Anderson on RFD-TV. At first blush I was skeptical. I have been riding 30 years and have completed two Tevis Cup 100 mile endurance races and over 2000 competitive miles.

Its not like I haven't seen my fair share of trainers. But before the program had ended I was looping back the episode to record to my DVR and taking notes which I then transfered to index cards to take to the barn.

Working with Red wasn't easy. I would lead him up from the pasture and tie him to a tree and then sit down in a lawn chair to rest. Then I'd groom one side and then rest. Then the other side. I had no strength to pick up his feet. But I was determined to get my horse back. What I had seen Clinton do with those green horses at the Las Vegas filming seemed almost easy. I began to assemble a makeshift round pen out of six different size panels, heights and widths and finished it off with hay string when I ran out of panels. It wasn't pretty, took me forever, but it worked. Armed with a handful of index cards I had written notes on during the TV show, Red and I went to work.

Clinton's advice was seemless and easy to follow even in my fragile condition. Red responded immediately and I became hungrier for more of Clinton's Method. We made it through the winter and as Clinton's Rancho Murieta DUH Tour approached I knew that I had to attend. The show was everything I dreamed it would be. Clinton Anderson gave me back my horse and my life. I don't think that I would have come out the other side of this disease with my strength and confidence intact if it had not been for Clinton Anderson. That weekend was my one year anniversary of being diagnosed and I could have walked in Sacramento at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk but I knew that the man who made the difference for me was Clinton Anderson so I went to Rancho Murieta.

I am fine now and recovering well. Red is well on his way through the Fundamentals. After two years of not riding Red I stepped into the stirrups just two weeks ago with the confidence that Clinton's training Method has given me and I have a new horse. Thank you Clinton. Someday I hope to attend a clinic at his new facility in Stephenville, Texas. I am Clinton Anderson's biggest fan. Theresa Rhine - Garden Valley, California
